CAPE NEDDICK 'THE NUBBLE' LIGHT - Maine

Location: Off Cape Neddick - York Harbor
Currently Operational: Yes
Height: 88 feet
Year Established: 1879

Though officially named the Cape Neddick Light, this lighthouse is probably much better known by its nickname - The Nubble Light. This iconic lighthouse was built in 1879 and continues in operation today.

The light was automated in 1987, and it was turned over to the town of York in 1998, though the Coast Guard remains responsible for maintaining its navigational aids.

The lighthouse is located on a small, rocky island a short distance off the eastern point of Cape Neddick. Even though the lighthouse and grounds are not open to the public, it remains a popular tourist destination. One of the most popular events of the year is the annual Christmas lighting.

If you can't get to the Nubble lighthouse in person, you might want to check the live Nubble Lighthouse webcam.for a view of this famous sight anytime.
